What You’ll Learn
Music at its very core is a language, and learning a language is best achieved by speaking it with others. Michael’s lessons revolve around “jamming” together in order to foster the experience of playing music with a band. A central theme of taking lesson with Michael is working towards a performance, whether in a smaller, comfortable setting, or in a more public environment with an audience.
How to Play with Others
Lessons with Michael are based in a solid foundation of both Western Classical Musical Theory and the more modern Nashville Number System, especially as it pertains to contemporary Pop, Rock, Jazz, Country, and other genres. However, Michael also has experience with music theory related to Latin, Indian Classical, and various sub-genres of Jazz, and which methodology is employed depends on each student’s individualized needs
Theory
Learning to hear what you are playing is among the most important things you can do as a musician. Michael employs a comprehensive ear training pedagogical method that focuses mainly on active, engaged listening supported by written theory work.
